You can't cheat me !

Jillu's family buys drinking water - the famous water cans! Well intended, yes! But, God knows how pure it is and one can never be sure ! The family's vote is yet to be cast on Aquaguards and RO's and others available in the market. But I shall reserve this analysis for another post.Coming to the topic,

It has become a normal practice for Jillu to hand over the cash for all transactions that happen in her presence.
Usually, the delivery boy comes home and delivers the water can once we order on the phone. Yesterday, as a deviation from the usual, a different boy, not the regular one(I have not seen him before, may be he's a new guy, or may be he's not) came along with another guy who seemed to be either a supervisor or owner ! Lets call him the supervisor for now!

The boy kept the can inside and left after taking the previously emptied can! I gave Jillu the money and she hurried after the boy outside, only to note that the boy was nowhere be found !

The waiting supervisor, naturally , extends his hands towards Jillu to receive the cash! Jillu, instinctively, withdraws her extended hand, takes a step back and looks towards the stair case, obviously still searching for the boy who actually delivered the can ! And she refuses to pay the waiting guy!

The supervisor was highly amused and the money was parted after I explained the scenario in simple terms to her !

Sherlock Holmes

in the making ?

A couple of days back, Jillu was generally creating a ruckus in the morning when her dad was about to leave for office. So, to distract her and make her listen, I said "Appa kilambiyaachu. Office poyaachu". (Appa has left for work)

Jillu immediately did a cursory check in all directions to see if she could spot him from where she stood then and when she could not find him, immediately went to the hall, peeped out into the veranda, and said " Appa innum pogala. inga dhaan irukkaa". (He has not left. He is here!)

Any guesses?

She had just checked for the presence of his slippers in the veranda.

My caretaker

This morning we were doing our usual good bye routine when I was leaving for work.

Then Jillu immediately said "Ammma, kudai pidichukko" (Amma, hold the umbrella)
She had noticed that it was raining (I had not and I generally don't bother with an umbrella. :).Need an excuse for getting drenched, isn't it ? :) ) and hence I had to carry an umbrella when I was stepping out of home.

Jillu, who taught you this? You have seen, observed, and deduced on your own :) Well done, my girl :)

And today, for Jillu, I did unfold and use the umbrella, even though, the rain was just a teeny bit drizzle
Thank you, my dear sweetie, for reminding me and taking care :)

Machiavellianism??

According to Oxford English Dictionary, Machiavellianism means "the employment of cunning and duplicity in statecraft or in general conduct".  Too strong a word for a less than two years old toddler?  But I don't know what else to call it.

The victim here is my mom and this is her account of the incident.
Its time for her haircut again, but it has to wait till the weekend. So my mom had put on a  tiny pony to keep her hair from falling into her eyes. Immediately, Jillu, as usual, put her hand to the hair band to remove the pony. As my mom was feeding her mosambi, she said "No mosambi if you take away your pony". So what does Jillu do? Behave like a very good girl with no signs of mischief as though she is even unaware of its existence.

And then, the moment she completes eating the fruit, before the blink of an eye, in a flash, the pony is undone.
